4.9 acid-alkali titration

  • Carefully measure the acid or alkali  solution with the unknown concentration using a pipet and put it in a conical flask
  • Add a few drops of indicator in it
  • Fill up the burette with sufficient quantity of acid or base solution with the known concentration
  • Note down the quantity of solution in burette with high accuracy
  • Now slowly add the solution with the known concentration in the beaker using the pipet
  • Stop when the indicator indicated the solution in the beaker has been neutralized
  • Now note down the level of solution in the burette and find the difference between the initial and final volume of the solution, this indicated how much acid or base was needed to neutralize the solution
  • Repeat this 3 times and find the average of the values
